Shree Ram Janaki Mandir ( Janaki Temple ) Janakpur

Shree Ram Janaki Mandir is a Hindu temple located in Mithila region, Janakpur of Nepal. The temple is dedicated to goddess Sita, who was wife of Rama and heroine of Ramayana. The temple is considered as one of the pieces of architecture in Nepal which is built in extravagant baroque Mughal style. Earlier King Janak found a baby named Sita who was lying in the field and it is believed that the temple exactly stand on that spot.Large number of worshipper comes to this temple during Vivah Panchami (the town’s major annual festival). At this time, marriage of Sita and Rama is celebrated with various re-enactments and is equally popular time too for modern day weddings.

The temple is also popularly known as Naulakha Mandir as about Nine Lakhs (Nine Hundred Thousand) Rupees was spent for its construction and the temple was built in 1910. The temple is particularly popular with women wearing colorful Saris for the occasion. The best time to visit the temple is in the time of early evening as the temple is draped with colorful lights. There is a small museum located in the back of palace which costs Rupees 15 for admission, featuring the retro moving statues that tell the story of Rama and Sita.

Thousands of pilgrims come to visit the temple every year from different part of countries including Nepal, India, Sri Lanka to worship Lord Rama and Sita. During special festivals like Dashain, Tihar, Ram Nawami and Vivaha Panchami, large number of visitors come here for worshipping.
