Jagannath Temple, the oldest structure located in the part of Kathmandu Durbar Square of Nepal is noted for the erotic carvings on its roof struts. The temple was claimed to have been constructed by King Pratap Malla during his reign and brought it to people’s attention. But considering its historical context, it is said to be built in the 16th century during the reign of King Mahendra Malla of the ninth Shah Dynasty ruler of Nepal.
The most amazing thing that draws the tourist in large numbers is its fascinating structure built as traditional pagoda-style architecture. It includes a three-tiered platform with two storeys and three doors on each side of the temple. But the opening is only made through the centre door for the people to visit. As it was only built with wood and bricks, some part of the temple was damaged due to the earthquake in 2015. However, after the restoration and maintenance of some portions, it has been opened for all the tourists to explore.
