Makwanpur Gadhi is a Village Development Committee in Makwanpur district of Nepal which lies around 17 kilometers north from Hetauda and is a great achievement of the Sen Dynasty. The Sen Dynasty, before the unification of Nepal ruled over Makwanpur until 1819 B.S and then Mukunda Sen (ruler of Palpa) divided his huge state into four parts for his four sons leading Makwanpur to came under Lohang Sen (youngest son of Mukunda Sen). Makwanpur Gadhi was constructed by another king of the same regime named Tula Sen during his ruling period. As the time passed by, granddaughter of Tula Sen (Indra Kumari) was married to King Prithivi Narayan Shah, who adds the territory of Makwanpur to Gorkha in 1819.
The place features two castles in the fort, one is called the “Mool Gadhi” (the main fort) and other is “Sanno Gadhi” (the small fort). There was a palace named as Jungey Darbar having its own supernatural beauty 35 years ago and was an important belonging of the Sen Dynasty but instead of conserving the historical monument, the later Sen King used the palace for their personal uses. Having historical and cultural importance, The Makwanpur Fort which is 25 feet high and the fort is surrounded by 7 feet wide wall, is a very valuable property of Makwanpur district. There is a 10 feet deep canal having motive of construction as to protect themselves from the enemies.
Nevertheless, A Manakamana Temple also stands nearby the fort which is another attraction nearby the place. The temple is suitable place for the short hiking which is religiously significant and believed to have great faith upon Manakamana goddess by Hindu people. From the hill of the temple beautiful scenery of Hetauda city can be observed. A hike to this place in winter time offers beautiful views and sceneries and many villages and farming are located here which also provides an opportunity to explore the tradition and culture of village.
