Manaslu Conservation Area is the third and newest protected area established in 1998 covering the area of 1,663 square kilometers, which is located in Gorkha district of Nepal. The elevation of conservation area ranges from 1,400 meters to 8,156 meters, up to the elevation at the Manaslu peak and comprises various mountains, glaciers, and watercourses. The area has a very beautiful environment to experience unspoiled mountain nature and culture and also an ideal place for a village tourism experience. It is also the home of more than 1500-2000 species of flowering plants, around 33 species of mammals (including snow leopard, musk deer, and Himalayan Tahr). In addition, this area is also the home of more than 110 species of birds and three species of reptiles. Trekking to this area will offer various opportunities to explore wonderfully natural views and allows you to circle around Mt. Manaslu.
Trekking to Manaslu region generally starts from Arughat just from where trekkers will have the opportunity to experience both nature and culture making your journey enjoyable and exciting. The region is full of pristine nature beckoning trekkers to explore more of it. The trekking trail follows the Budi Gandaki River before reaching the Larke Pass and crossing over into the Manang District of the Annapurna Conservation Area. As the journey passes through the rugged terrain, trekkers can see the towering snow-covered mountains to the north which is very beautiful and gorgeous. One of the motivating thing about trekking in this area is there is internet access, and phones, as well as other electronic devices, can be charged at the teahouses along the trail, which is most probably good things for most of the trekkers. This trip also provides great photo opportunity so you will have something to take back home as a memory of your beautiful journey.
Moreover, the Manaslu region trek offers the most beautiful scenery of the splendid Himalayan ranges and high altitude glacier lakes to its trekkers or visitors, which is rich in biological and cultural resources. Most of the people here follow Buddhist religion and there are many Buddhist monasteries like Shringi Gompain Bihi, Mu and Rachen Gompas in Chhekampur, etc. Also, the lamas from the monasteries have prohibited the locals to hunt the wild animals for saving the wildlife, including the rare one. However, this area falls in the Restricted Area zone and requires a permit of trekking from the Department of Immigration for tourists.
