Namo Buddha, the holiest and important Buddhist pilgrimage site lies at the top of the hill in Shyampati VDC, Kathmandu. It is located at Kavrepalanchok district, about 40 km to the south-east of Kathmandu city. It holds religious importance, being among the three main stupas of Kathmandu valley.
There’s a story after the name, Namo Buddha. About 6000 years ago, prince Mahasatwo, the incarnation of Buddha, found a tigress lying near the rock in the quest of the jungle. The very moment he saw the tigress, he realized that she was about to die out of hunger with her five babies and he decided to give his life and cuts his body to give his warm blood to the tigress. The tigress accepted his sacrifices and left with his bones only, which was later brought to the village and buried in the tomb. The buried tomb is actually the stupa of Namo Buddha. Subsequently about 3500 years later, Gautam Buddha renamed the village and then after the name: Namo Buddha came into existence.
There is a place in the hill of Stupa, where you will see stone engraved with the scene of Buddha giving his body to the tigress. There is another place, where there is a stone engraved with the image of a den of a tigress with her babies. There are many statues of Buddha signifying the Buddhist religions. The monastery has made a home for more than 250 monks. Namo Buddha encompasses both the historical and religious norms and values.

we have visited of namo buddha with team of friends and we have hiked from dhulikhel. The cool wind blowing made the visit all the more pleasant and combined with the serene Buddhist environment bound all of us.
This was like a “spiritual trip” as we had to climb hundreds of steps to get up there. This is in addition to a long & winding jeep ride up the mountain. But it is worth it as you are rewarded with a paranomic view of the majestic mountain ranges from up above. You will be impressed by they managed to build the Stupa up in the clouds, literally.
