Tsum Valley is a beautiful valley lying against the backdrop of Ganesh, Sringi and Buddha Himal. It is located in Gorkha district of Nepal. This valley is considered as sacred Himalayan pilgrimage valley rich in ancient art, culture, and religion. The name of the valley is derived from the Tibetan word ‘Tsombo’ which means vivid (realistic in a simple sense). It was restricted region until recent time because of being one of the world’s remotest Himalayan valleys. The people of this valley belongs Tibetan origin and Tsum valley trek takes you into the wonderful boundary of Ganesh, Sringi and Boudha Himal ranges. A sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site is famous for Buddhist culture and traditions. Many Buddhist temples are situated in this site from where magnificent mountain views can also be observed. It is believed that most popular Buddhist Yogi named Chyuchin Milarepa has meditated in the mountains situated in this valley.
Tsum Valley trek is considered as one of the best trekking destinations for various purposes and aspects. Some of them include Natural, Religious, Cultural and Spiritual point of views. Normally, trek to Tsum Valley starts from Arughat (600 meters). From Arughat, the trail follows the way through Seti Khola (700 meters), Maccha Khola (870 meters), Jagat (2,340 meters), Chisopani (1,600 meters), Chumling (2,386 meters), Chokhangparo (3,010 meters), Nile (3,361 meters), Mu Gompa (3,700 meters), Burgi Village (3,245 meters) via Milarepa Cave, Chumling (2,386 meters), Philim (1,570 meters), Khorlabesi (970 meters), Soti Khola (700 meters) and finally to Arughat finishing the circuit. The trail is increasing in altitude from start to reach the highest point and decreases in the same manner. The trail passes through the alpine forests, glacial rivers with beautiful natural scenery and mountain views. Rachen Gompa, Mu Gompa, and Dephyudonma Gompa are the ancient Gompas over here.
Moreover, the first half of Tsum Valley Trek goes through the Budhi Gandaki Valley with the fine pathway. The path is cloned with dense forest, beautiful terraced fields and hill villages and comparatively easy and less explorative. While leaving the Manaslu region, you will be entering into the hidden valley consisting of full exploration activities which lots of offerings. However, this valley used to be restricted area till 2008 but now is opened with lots of adventurous deeds and explorative offerings. One of the interesting facts about the family life of this valley is all the brothers in the family are married to a single girl. Normally, we call this practice as polyandry.
