Ghorepani is a village situated at the altitude of 2,874 meters from sea level and located at Myagdi district in the Dhaulagiri zone of Nepal. The village lies within the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA) and requires the permission of ACA for visiting the place and is also considered as the resting stop trekkers. About the name of the village, the ancient traders found water (paani in Nepali) for their horses (Ghoda or Ghora in Nepali) in this place and later it was named as Ghorepani. This village is one of the most popular trekking destinations in Nepal offering magnificent views of the Himalayan panorama of Nepal and is also a part of Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking trail.
Ghorepani is a major trekking destination or trail connecting several other villages as well as the Annapurna Base Camp. Ghorepani can be normally reached in about 10 hours on foot from Birethanti village from the South-East direction. However, many trekkers prefer to stay at night time at one of the lower villages on their way to Ghorepani, covering the steepness of the trail for two days, which presents the increase in altitude and the beauty of the natural surroundings in the same ratio. Ghorepani can also be reached in about 8–10 hours starting from Tatopani passing through the trail of the villages of Shikha, Dana, and Chitre, from the North-West direction. Ghorepani trek normally starts from Nayapul, which is about an hour drive from Pokhara valley. The trek follows the way through Ulleri (1,950 meters) and finally Ghorepani (2,800 meters). After exploring the main destination, the trail goes through Poon Hill (3,210 meters) and finally to Nayapul, the starting point of this trek. The place offers the amazing and eye-catchy views of the Himalayas from this village which includes various mountains as Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayas on a clear day offering the whole 360 views. In a similar way, perfectly and amazingly views of Dhaulagiri I, II, III, IV, V, Tukuche, Dhampus, Nilgiri, Annapurna South, Barah Sikhar, Machhapuchhre are also visible from the village.
Moreover, Poon Hill is one of the major attraction of this area and offers wonderful sunrise and sunset views where you might take the memorable experience of your life. Gurung hill is another viewpoint over here similar to Poon Hill but attracts fewer tourists.
